The Introduction to Horsemanship course offers children the opportunity to learn essential skills for working with horses in a hands-on, supportive environment. Sessions are held weekly at the farm in Jericho, providing consistent and engaging experience for all participants.
Children will complete and keep a horsemanship workbook during the session.
Group A: Ages 6–10, Tuesdays from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM
Group B: Ages 11–13, Tuesdays from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM
Children meet once a week at the farm, where they work closely with our experienced teachers and a herd of miniature horses. The curriculum focuses on basic horse care, safe horse handling, and foundational skills in horse groundwork. Participants learn how to confidently and safely approach, halter, and interact with miniature horses, building skills that can be transferred to working with all types of horses.
The course covers a variety of topics and activities, including:
Basic horse anatomy
Identification and use of tack
Grooming and bathing (weather permitting)
Leading horses through obstacle courses
Teaching and performing tricks
Other hands-on and fun activities related to horse care and handling
This program runs for four consecutive Tuesdays each month, allowing children to build their skills and confidence over time.
Minimum participants to run group: 4. Maximum participants per session: 8.
